A CALL TO PLEASE GOD IN YOUR CALLING

SEPTEMBER 2025

Colossians 1:9-12

“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.”

PRAYER:

"Father God, we come before you today, recognizing your sovereignty and our dependence on you. We thank you for the calling you have placed on each of our lives and on the church as a whole. We pray that we would walk worthy of this calling.

Fill us with your Holy Spirit, Lord, so that we may be empowered to live lives that are pleasing to you. Grant us spiritual wisdom and understanding so that we may discern your will in all things. Help us to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to you. May we be fruitful in every good work, increasing in the knowledge of you.

Strengthen us with all power, according to your glorious might, for all endurance and patience. Help us to walk in humility and gentleness, with longsuffering and love, bearing with one another. May we diligently keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

We pray for unity in the church, that we would be one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, and one baptism. Help us to forgive one another, just as you have forgiven us.

We give you thanks for qualifying us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light, and for delivering us from the power of darkness, and transferring us into the kingdom of your beloved Son. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen."

I am amazed at the local church’s desire to “discover their gifts and calling”. Why? Because, aside from the gifts of the Spirit, we are already all called to please God!

To walk in our Godly calling, we should all be actively seeking God's will through prayer, His Word, and wisdom from mature believers.

The Christian life already has a standard of general behavior, a way for all believers to respond to God’s great love, mercy and grace by which he has saved us and is keeping us until that great day. This general standard is what I call “The Pleasing Our Father Principle.” It should be our great duty to always consider all we do and think and to apply to it the standard of pleasing God. So, that makes us ask some questions about how we live, think and act. “Is this something that will make God pleased with me?”  Our entire Christian walk in this world is tethered by this principle. Pleasing God requires something from us. Actually, it requires quite a lot! The core pathways for our walk in our calling is always the same…

1. Seek God's Guidance through Prayer and in the Holy Spirit’s unction:

Regularly and intentionally, we need to communicate with God through prayer and that by praying honestly and in the Spirit. We should aim to ask for clarity on our specific calling and for guidance in discerning the steps to take. Intentionally pray for wisdom and discernment to recognize opportunities that align with His will. We should always be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s promptings and warnings.

2. Study God's Word:

Immerse yourself in the Bible, seeking to understand God's character, His promises, and His plans for your life. The Bible offers the best guidance on living a life that is pleasing to God and fulfilling His purposes. Learn about the gifts of the Spirit and the five-fold ministry.

3. Seek Wise Counsel:

Seek guidance and wisdom from trusted mentors, pastors, or mature Christians who know you well. They can offer valuable insights, encouragement, and accountability as you navigate your calling.

4. Act on Your Convictions:

Take steps of faith based on the guidance you receive, and the desires God has placed in your heart. Do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and embrace opportunities that align with your calling, even if they seem daunting.

We are all called to serve, and that, unto God. Our areas of service will vary depending on our location, congregation, and gifts. How we serve and in what capacity is ultimately ordained by God Himself. So, let’s pursue the lifestyle and Kingdom vocation that pleases Him first. If we live to please the Lord in our calling, we will be successful, no matter the circumstances.

Go and serve God with your gifts and talents. Use them to serve Him, the congregation, and the lost sheep in this world.

~God Bless,

Steven
