DO IT UNTO GOD

Whatever you do, work with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. — Colossians 3:23-24

Every day we wake up to a world that demands our energy, focus and labor. Whether you are headed to the job site, managing an office, caring for family, or ministering to those in need, it is easy to view labors as a cumbersome grind. Some even call it a curse. But as people of God, our perspective on labor must transcend the ordinary. Our daily work is not just a means to an end; it is a platform for worship.

Here are three truths to anchor your heart as we labor in His kingdom this month:

1. We serve God with our work

Your daily work is not separated from your spiritual life. When you show up with willingness, integrity, diligence, and excellence, you are executing a spiritual assignment. We do not just serve a clock, a supervisor, or a company; we serve the Living God. Every task, no matter how menial it may seem, becomes sacred when it is dedicated to Him. Your workplace is your mission field, and your labor is your offering. Christians should also value all labors as a stewardship of love unto God; for the gifts, abilities and talents he has given us.

2. Expectation vs. Appreciation

Let’s be honest: the world rarely rewards according to God’s standards. There will be seasons when your hard work goes unnoticed or marginalized, your integrity is taken for granted, and your compensation doesn’t match your output. If you place your worth in human applause or a corporate paycheck, you will find yourself empty. When human recognition fails, remember who your true Employer is. He sees the hidden sacrifices, and He is the ultimate Rewarder.

3. Our Crowning Achievements Belong to Him

Any success, skill, or promotion we achieve in this life is not for our own pride or social standing. The crowns we earn through our earthly labor—the accolades, the titles, and the milestones—are temporary. Their ultimate purpose is to be laid back down at the feet of Jesus. When we stand before Him, our greatest joy won’t be what we accomplished for ourselves, but what we can present to Him as a token of our love and faithfulness.

A Final Thought for September

As you go about your responsibilities this month, shift your mindset. Stop looking at the earthly things or the immediate circumstances. Work with all your heart. Do it with passion, do it with excellence, integrity and honor and most importantly—do it as unto the Lord.
