SHINING REAL LIGHT
Shining Real Light in a Darkened World
As the days grow shorter and October is upon us, the world around us often feels shadowed by darkeness, noise, confusion, and uncertainty. In times like these, it is easy to be drawn to the bright, flashing glare of false illumination—things that promise comfort or clarity but ultimately leave us empty. True discernment requires us to look deeper, rooting our understanding in what is genuinely true and good and godly. True goodness and truth can never be separated from God, the very source of light.
Scripture reminds us of our calling to walk as children of light rather than getting swept up in the shadows:
"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)." — Ephesians 5:8-9
It is vital to recognize that secular culture, human traditions, and socially acceptable entertainment—even well-meaning efforts to engineer peace, emotional health, or clarity at a purely human level—can never truly help us spiritually or eternally.
This friction becomes especially clear in October. Whether through the casual celebration of Halloween and the occult, the subtle pull of New Age wisdom, or modern psychological frameworks that seek to heal the human heart apart from its Creator, the world offers countless alternative sources of light. Yet these avenues only mask spiritual darkness rather than dispelling it.
When we bring the real light of Jesus into a darkened world, it will inevitably meet resistance from around us. But the most challenging resistance of all - is often the resistance within our own hearts, especially when we find ourselves operating with eyes full of darkness.
When we anchor our hearts in Him, shining His light is never about harsh judgment or performative brightness. It is about a quiet, steady radiance fueled by His Holy Spirit that produces fruits of love, mercy and grace!
As we navigate this month, we are invited to test what is true, hold fast to what is good, and let our lives be guided by genuine love:
"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God." — 1 John 4:7
This October, let’s choose to shine not with a fleeting spark of our own making, but with the enduring flame of spirit, truth, and love. Even the smallest light changes the darkness.
